We all know that saying about being good or else Santa will leave a "lump of coal in your stocking." Well, I've found one lump of "coal" I would WANT in my stocking - The Healing Tree's Bamboo Charcoal Soap! (Note: Coal and charcoal are two different substances... But you get the idea!)
So why put charcoal in a soap? It's known to draw out dirt and toxins from deep inside the pores, unclogging them and helping your skin breathe. In fact, the motto of this soap is "Lets your skin breathe again." Instead of just cleaning the surface of skin like most soaps, this one cleans out and opens up your pores.
Unlike regular wood charcoal, bamboo charcoal is made from bamboo plants
and undergoes a firing process of 1800 F to create higher absorbency -
So it's even more effective at drawing out and absorbing toxins,
pollutants, dead skin cells and bacteria from the skin.
As someone with sensitive skin, it was exciting to try a soap that's made of all natural ingredients and doesn't contain any perfumes, dyes or harsh chemicals. It's made with just 4 ingredients: Vegetable oil, water, glycerin, and bamboo charcoal. The bar of soap is a natural black color, so when you first put it on your washcloth or body, the suds do look dark gray on your skin. But I promise you - it washes off and leaves no residue or color behind.
I pretty much use this exclusively for my soap now, and love the squeaky clean feeling it leaves me with. My skin feels actually clean - not full of products or smelly stuff. I also feel like my skin is smoother and in better condition. Although this soap doesn't dry out my skin at all, I do still like to use a moisturizer after showering. As an added bonus, I'm pretty sure that anything you put on afterward will absorb into your skin better since your pores are opened up.
I haven't tried this on my face yet, but I'll be trying that next since it should be really effective in preventing acne and clearing out my pores. In fact I've seen a couple of facial products recently that contain charcoal to do just that -- But instead of getting any of those, I'll just use my Bamboo Charcoal Soap! I recommend this product, and at only $3.99, it's a steal!
