Yamuna® Body Rolling is a unique body work technique developed by Yamuna Zake, a master teacher and healer. It is a relaxing workout that elongates, tones, strengthens and aligns the body - and it is described as feeling like an incredible deep tissue massage. The benefits of the work include improved posture and alignment, increased range of motion, and increased muscle tone, flexibility and organ function.
The method centers around the ball: the ball becomes the hands of the therapist and the person’s weight creates the traction, movement and release on the ball. Yamuna Body Rolling gives you the ability to “work on yourself ” anytime, anywhere. Yamuna's methods are uniquely her own, but they are a natural complement to other disciplines like yoga or Pilates. After learning more about this technique, I would definitely like to try it for the tension-releasing and strengthening benefits. The Yamuna Body Rolling youtube channel also shows several techniques that can be done without the ball, like working and relaxing jaw muscles to help release tension and reduce teeth grinding (which is my biggest stress-related problem!)
