Pure Organic African Shea Butter Review

If you've used any type of body cream or lotion and looked at the ingredients, you have probably seen "Shea Butter" listed somewhere in the product. Shea butter is a well-known deep moisturizer that contains Vitamin A, E, and F and does not clog pores. This is why it's used in so many products.

Pure Organic African Shea Butter Review
But why use a lotion with a bunch of ingredients and chemicals when you can use just pure, unrefined shea butter? This shea butter by Cleopatra's Choice is 100% natural and organic. It is a fair trade product, produced by women subsistence farmers in Ghana, Africa. It comes in a large resealable one-pound tub.

The butter itself is thick at first but then melts with your body heat once you start rubbing it in. A little really goes a long way - a little dime or nickel-sized amount covers my legs really well. I keep the tub by my bedside to apply to my legs and feet before bedtime. It moisturizes better than any other lotions I have used, and the moisture lasts a long time. At first there will be some residue on your hands, but after it absorbs, it doesn't leave a greasy feel.

Aside from just dry skin, shea butter can help with eczema, psoriasis, acne, dark spots, and stretch marks. It's also great for using in DYI soaps and lotions. Recently I made a 3-ingredient moisturizer using shea butter, tea tree oil, and coconut oil. It works really well on my face and neck. But the plain shea butter is my preference for legs, arms, feet, and body.

iGotTech Magnetic Screen Door Review

I've often heard my grandma comment about how she wished there was a screen door in her kitchen entrance so that she could get a good breeze coming in. After all, the kitchen is the main area of her house - a place where we all congregate when we visit, and where she sits in her rocker working on embroidery. But because of the way the staircase and railing outside the door are situated, there is no room for a screen door that swings out.

So when I discovered the magnetic screen door from iGotTech, I knew it would be perfect for grandma's house. My dad helped me install it (thank goodness, because he's way better at this stuff than I am.) It wasn't too hard - well aside from convincing my dad that we should follow the directions rather than doing it "his" way. The most important part was getting the velcro straight on the door frame. The adhesive was really strong so you wouldn't want to peel it off after sticking on. It felt nice and sturdy to hold up the screen.

iGotTech Magnetic Screen Door Review  iGotTech Magnetic Screen Door Review
Basically all it takes to install is cutting the velcro to size, applying it to the top and sides of the door frame, hammering in the included tacks for reinforcement, and then sticking the screen up there. Once we (well, my dad) finished installation, we tested it out several times and it worked really well. You can walk right in without having to touch a door handle and it closes again behind you. This is the perfect addition to my grandma's kitchen entrance - Now she can leave the door open while still having a screen up to keep the bugs out. Plus all of us grandkids can go in and out easily when we visit!

The screen can be taken down by pulling it off of the velcro frame, and can be folded up and put back in the original package to save for a more temperate season. (The velcro on the frame stays put.) We did this for my grandma because summers in Minnesota are way too hot and humid to keep windows or screen doors open, so we didn't want it to get in her way. But once it cools off in the Fall (hopefully in September) I'll be putting the screen back up. It will probably take me about 2 minutes to get it back up on the frame - easy peasy.

iGotTech Magnetic Screen Door Review  iGotTech Magnetic Screen Door Review

This screen door is made of high-quality material and is pretty simple to install. The only downfall I found was that in my grandma's case, she has a metal door in the kitchen so when you walk in through the magnetic screen door briskly, the one side of the screen gets magnetically stuck to the metal door. But I doubt this will be a big problem for my grandma since she doesn't go in and out very much, and the rest of us can just pull it off the door if that happens.

Ageless Derma Retinol and Vitamin K Eye Cream Review

Ageless Derma Retinol and Vitamin K Eye Cream contains 2% Vitamin K combined with 0.1% Retinol and Vitamins E & C to reduce under-eye circles, puffiness, and wrinkles around the eye area.

Ageless Derma Retinol and Vitamin K Eye Cream Review
This gold-colored cream comes in a nice pump bottle and spreads on smoothly. I've been using it for the past couple weeks and my eye area is smoother and less dry than it used to be. My dark circles are reduced, but not completely gone - Sadly, they probably will never completely disappear. But at least they are less prominent now and there is less puffiness. The Retinol-based formula seems to very effective. You can read more about the ingredients here: http://www.agelessderma.com/ingredients-detail.aspx.

I found that the pump can sometimes emit more cream than I need for one application, so I have learned to push the pump down more lightly to get just the right amount. I would recommend using this at night to let it work overnight. I would also recommend to avoid putting this above your eyelid or anywhere that it might run into your eyes, as it will be irritating to your eyes.

This eye cream was included in the Daytime Emmy Awards gift bags that were given to all attendees and nominees - so it's kind of a big deal ;) Seriously though, I really like the Ageless Derma products that I have tried and think they are very effective in making skin look more youthful.

Excelerol Brain Health Supplement Review

Excelerol is a non-prescription brain health supplement that is formulated to support memory, focus, and alertness. Ingredients include Vitamin B-12, Niacin, Gingko Biloba, White Tea, Black Tea, and Green Tea Extract, Guarana Extract, and Peppermint Oil as well as other scientifically proven ingredients for brain health like citicoline and phosphatidylserine. The pills are vegetarian liquid capsules that allow for rapid absorption.

Excelerol Brain Health Supplement ReviewDirections say to take one capsule up to 3 times a day, with water. I've only needed one capsule in the afternoon to really get a great benefit from this supplement - It not only energizes me but helps me concentrate and really make progress on my work or blogging projects. Two capsules have about the same caffeine content as a cup of coffee (from the green tea and guarana), which I appreciate since that means I don't get over-caffeinated and shaky when I take this.

I definitely enjoy the benefits of Excelerol. I don't use it every day, but mostly on days where I'm really busy or have big projects to focus on. It's also great on days where I just need that extra boost of energy to keep me going. And I only take one capsule - I've found that I don't need any more than that. I would recommend taking it with plenty of water, as the directions state. The one time I didn't, I had a strong mint taste in the back of my throat for awhile. It wasn't uncomfortable or anything, but just weird. I assume it was due to the peppermint oil in the capsules. (At least it is a pleasant mint taste and not anything gross!)

Overall, I think this product does improve focus and concentration and is great for anything from working to studying for tests or even working on something creative.

Apothecary Extracts Australian Tea Tree Oil Review & DIY Face Cream Recipe

Apothecary Extracts Australian Tea Tree Oil Review Tea Tree Oil is one of the most versatile and commonly used essential oils. I've heard my mom and grandma talk about it for years, but never tried it for myself until now. Unlike many diluted versions. Apothecary Extracts Australian Tea Tree Oil is 100% pure, undiluted, and potent. It comes in a large (way larger than any other essential oils I've used!) 4 oz bottle. The dark brown glass bottle and label are so vintage-esque - I love the way it looks! But better than that, I can tell the potency of this oil by its strong scent. It's not a bad scent - it's actually quite pleasant - but definitely potent, which is why a little goes a long way with this and other essential oils.

I can't believe all the uses I'm finding for Tea Tree Oil. Historically it was used as an antiseptic for skin disorders, including acne and dandruff. But it can also be used for cuts, burns, bites, cold sores, ringworm, fleas, warts, psoriasis, athlete's foot, toenail fungus, lice, yeast infections, and more. On top of that, it can also be used in natural DIY face and body scrubs, soaps, lotions, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, and toothpaste. Plus, it also can be used in household cleaners and detergents.

There were so many recipes in the free ebook that came with this product, as well as on Pinterest, that I figured I would start with something simple. I found a DIY face cream recipe on Pinterest (original recipe here) that I just had to try. I'm currently using it as a neck and décolleté cream. Previously I had been using plain coconut oil on the area after getting the idea from my mom (she uses it daily and has super youthful skin), but this recipe made it even better! Not only does it leave the skin super soft and nourished, but with the antiseptic properties of the Tea Tree Oil, it also helps to prevent breakouts and heals skin conditions as well.

DIY 3 Ingredient Face Cream Recipe - Coconut Oil, Tea Tree Oil, Shea Butter

DIY Face Cream Recipe
  • 1 Tablespoon Coconut Oil (Use virgin or extra virgin, NOT refined)
  • 3 Tablespoons Shea Butter
  • 2-3 drops Tea Tree Oil
  1. Mix coconut oil and shea butter together
  2. Add 2-3 drops of tea tree oil
  3. Mash together until blended
  4. Store in a sealed glass container or baby food jar
I love this stuff! It's so easy and a little goes a long way. One batch will last me at least a couple weeks. I also plan to make a Citrus Foot Scrub and Natural Deodorant from the recipe ebook soon.

Whether you're looking to go more natural in your beauty and cleaning routine or just want to keep a versatile antiseptic in your bathroom cabinet, Tea Tree Oil is the way to go. I really like the Apothecary Extracts brand and recommend it. Plus it's affordable too, at just $19.99 for a 4 oz bottle.

Green Coffee Bean Extract Review

Despite what you may think, Green Coffee Bean extract does not use caffeine to promote weight loss and energy. Actually, it's the chlorogenic acid in the green coffee bean that inhibits the release of glucose in the body while boosting metabolism and burning fat in the liver. Chlorogenic acid is also a strong antioxidant. The reason green coffee bean is used in pill form for the health benefits is because if you roast the green coffee beans to drink it, the process removes a lot of the chlorogenic acid, making it much less effective.

Xium Green Coffee Bean Extract ReviewThis Green Coffee Bean extract by Xium is caffeine-free (less than 1%) - which is great news for me! At first I was under the impression that I'd have to stop drinking my morning coffee at work so I wouldn't over-do the caffeine. Granted, I did find that with the Green Coffee Bean extract, I had more energy anyway so I didn't need as much daily caffeine; But it was nice to still be able to have a warm cup of joe. (I have read that some other brands may contain a significant amount of caffeine so you'll want to be wary of that.)

The daily dose is 2 capsules with water, up to 2 times a day. Generally I only took 2 capsules a day, which is 400 MG. (Full daily serving is 800 MG.) The pills are smaller than normal supplements so they are easy to swallow. They are also rapid-release capsules, so you want to be sure to drink plenty of water with them. I did not experience any aftertaste or negative side effects.

Mainly I experienced good energy and less bloating while taking Green Coffee Bean extract. For me, it was a good supplement to take at the beginning of my weight loss efforts, since it helped give me the energy to keep going. I also assume it was working "behind the scenes" by inhibiting glucose and such. This must be the reason it seemed to help with appetite control as well - less blood sugar spikes.

Now that I know how Green Coffee Bean affects me on its own, I'm going to try taking it in tandem with Garcinia Cambogia and Raspberry Ketones. I have read that they are most effective together, and figure I will try it since I've had a good experience with all three separately - we'll see what happens! Xium's Green Coffee Bean extract is made in the USA and less than $10 for a bottle.

The Super Glove - Heat Resistant Grill & Oven Gloves Review

If you've ever cooked, baked, grilled, or pulled anything out of a hot oven, you've probably experienced a burn or two in your lifetime. I know I've had my fair share of burns - whether from my forearm hitting the top of the oven or my oven mitt not being able to resist the heat of the pan.

I have used everything from hot pads to standard cloth oven mitts to most currently the Ove Glove. Although these worked in a pinch, none of them were able to withstand very high heat or had grips of any kind. Not to mention that most of the materials weren't protective of actual flames. Even my Ove Glove has burn marks on it.

The Super Glove - Heat Resistant Grill & Oven Gloves ReviewThe Super Glove - Heat Resistant Grill & Oven Gloves Review

But now I have The Super Glove by Kuisiware - heat-resistant cooking gloves which protect hands from fire and extreme heat (up to 662 degress Fahrenheit!) They are created from high-quality fibers (Meta-Aramid and Para-Aramid) which make them heavy duty and durable. They also have a 100% cotton lining so they feel nice on my hands. The gloves feel comfortable and fit my small hands just fine. They kind of hug your hands and will stretch to fit larger hands, so there is no risk of falling off.

What I really like about the design is that there are silicone textures on both sides of the gloves which provide a sturdy grip - Very important when handling hot pots and pans. Another great feature is the length of the gloves; they cover a large area of my forearm to prevent those annoying burns I get from hitting the top edge of the oven.

The Super Glove - Heat Resistant Grill & Oven Gloves Review

I've been using these gloves to protect my hands and arms while grilling, baking, and even cooking on the stovetop to hold the handles of hot skillets. They are so sturdy and easy to maneuver in - Every cook needs these! I also appreciate that they are machine washable and have little loops at the end to be hung from hooks or knobs next to the oven or grill.

Bottom Line: Great design, sturdy materials, comfortable fit.

Azure Naturals - a brand that creates high-quality facial skincare - has created a professional strength Ultimate Retinol Anti-Wrinkle Serum which is made of 97% natural and 72% organic ingredients. It contains a high strength of retinol while being gentle enough to use on sensitive skin and even around your eyes.

Azure Naturals Ultimate Retinol Anti-Wrinkle Serum ReviewThe main ingredient in this serum is retinol, which penetrates the skin to activate collagen and elastin, and promote cellular turnover. The serum also contains Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin A to improve skin texture and tone while increasing hydration.

I had never used retinol products before, so I followed the instructions for new users and started by applying it every other night with just a small amount of serum and increasing the amount over time. Before applying the retinol serum, I use Azure Naturals Vitamin C serum (review here); Then afterward, I use a moisturizer.

The thick gel-like serum feels really nice on my skin and leaves my face looking more even and radiant. I love using it and do feel like it's making my skin look more youthful. I have sensitive skin and haven't experienced any irritation, redness, or negative effects. It is also helping to keep my skin clear of blemishes and acne.

Adovia Exfoliating Facial Sea Salts

Adovia is a brand that I've reviewed before and really enjoy - They incorporate responsibly-gathered Dead Sea salts and minerals into their facial products. Today I am reviewing the Exfoliating Facial Salts, which are 100% pure Dead Sea salts finely ground for facial use.

Adovia Exfoliating Facial Sea Salts ReviewThe large jar is packed full of salt - enough for at least a two months' supply. The basic directions are to apply salt to a clean, wet face and massage gently to exfoliate. Then rinse off with warm water and follow with a moisturizing cream. This is great for oily and combination skin. However, if you have normal to dry skin, you can either mix the salts with a gentle cleanser or olive oil to create a more soothing scrub. I have sensitive skin so I just made sure to rub very gently, which works well for me. It does the job without causing redness or irritation on my skin.

The use of salts to exfoliate your facial skin not only infuses your skin with minerals from the Dead Sea, but it helps to remove dead skin cells and unclog pores, while also stimulating circulation and tightening pores. It's basically a microdermabrasion for a fraction of the cost. The huge jar is only $19!

These facial salts really help with the occasional flakiness that I get on certain areas of my face. After exfoliating, my skin is left feeling super soft and healthy. These salts would also work well as a body scrub or in DIY recipes for scrubs and facial masks.

Invita Skin Beauty Collagen Supplements Review

When you think of collagen, you probably don't think of a pill that you can take. But Natural Collagen Inventia created Invita Skin Beauty - the only product in the skincare supplement market that contains collagen in its native form, identical to the collagen that occurs naturally in the human body.

Invita Skin Beauty Collagen Supplements Review
Invita Skin Beauty contains over 90% native collagen proteins. Collagen helps maintain the proper structure and elasticity of skin. This supplement also contains Vitamin E which protects from oxidative stress and slows the aging process, as well algae extract that contains iodine which helps maintain healthy skin.

These collagen supplements maintain moisture levels in younger skin while helping to regenerate and firm the skin of older people, naturally smoothing out any wrinkles. It can help with old scars, burns, and people with inflammatory skin conditions like dry skin, acne, eczema, and psoriasis. Plus, it can even help provide pain relief in those with arthritis, joint pain, and hip pain.

Invita Skin Beauty Collagen Supplements Review
No more redness in my cheeks!
I wasn't sure what to expect when I started taking Invita Skin Beauty, but after just two days of taking one capsule a day, I noticed a huge visible difference in my facial skin: My dry, red cheeks were no longer dry and red! For the past 8 or so months, I've had annoying redness and flaky skin in my cheeks. I had no idea that collagen could help with this, but my skin has cleared up so well! Even my mom commented the other day that my skin looked so smooth and she thought I was wearing foundation when really it was my natural skin. I've also noticed less pain in my shoulder and wrist, which I sometimes get from working.

I'm definitely a believer in this product. I had no idea that it would have such positive impacts on my skin and body, but it has produced considerable improvements in just one week. I'm so happy that the redness in my cheeks has faded and the flakiness is gone! My skin looks absolutely radiant and has been restored to its youthful glow.

These capsules are made of fish gelatin and the collagen is derived from the skins of Polish freshwater silver carp, so if you are vegan or have any sensitivities to fish, you may not want to try this product. However, for all others, this product is safe and has no negative side effects that I have experienced. It's safe for every skin type including sensitive skin. In fact, it can actually help decrease skin sensitivities!

Azure Naturals Ultimate Vitamin C Serum Review

Azure Naturals Ultimate Vitamin C Serum is a clear thin serum that's loaded with natural and organic anti-aging ingredients. It contains 20% Vitamin C and 11% Hyaluronic Acid as well as Vitamin E, Ferulic Acid, Organic Aloe, and Amino Complex.
Azure Naturals Ultimate Vitamin C Serum Review

This Vitamin C Serum is meant to help the skin heal naturally from sun damage and environmental stresses while also protecting against future damage. It helps even skin tone, refines texture, and firms skin. It can also stimulate collagen production which provides anti-aging benefits.

I've been using Vitamin C serum every day and find that it really helps my skin look even and radiant. It is a thin serum that I put on before other serums (like a retinol or hyaluronic acid) and then apply a moisturizer. It isn't something you'd want to use as a moisturizer, although it does provide hydration. But you'll want to use it after washing your face, before your moisturizer.

The bottle comes with a dropper as well as a pump, so you can use what you prefer. I like the pump since it reduces contamination of the serum and is easier to handle.

This serum feels nice, does not cause any irritation, and is visibly improving my facial skin tone. It is made with 98% natural and 72% organic ingredients and is plant-based. It's also cruelty and gluten free.

Azure Naturals is a quality brand and I recommend their Vitamin C Serum for all skin types.

Bellafab Skincare Matrixyl 3000 Serum Review

Bellafab Skincare Matrixyl 3000 Serum Review
Bellafab Skincare Matrixyl 3000 Serum is an anti-aging cream that contains matrixyl 3000, hyaluronic acid, and vitamin C. If you haven't heard of matrixyl 3000 before (I know, it sounds like some futuristic product!) it's a major wrinkle-fighting ingredient used as an alternative to Retin A.

This product is touted as being an alternative to painful needle injections. It tightens and firms skin, works against wrinkles, and evens skin tone by reducing melanin production.

The instructions advise to start off with just a few drops each time in case you have any irritation, and then increase the amount slowly after the first week. Of course, I didn't see this until after I used it the first time, so I put a lot on my face and experienced some redness and irritation. I discovered that the cream has a peppermint scent because it contains peppermint oil, so if you are sensitive to that, you may not want to use this. However, I think my initial irritation was because I didn't give my skin time to adjust and since the serum is so powerful. The peppermint oil also gives the serum a bit of a tingle when you apply it.

After it absorbs, it does leave my skin very smooth. I use it mainly on my neck and chest, since those areas are less prone to irritation for me, but I plan to start using on my face again - following the instructions this time! This can also be used around the eye area but because of the peppermint oil and tingle I would advise against getting too close to your eyes.

One thing I really like about this product is the nice pump bottle it comes in, which also features a clear mid-section so you can see how much product you have left. It is also non-toxic, paraben free, and made in the USA.
